Harris County Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing Nextdoor

Per a notice from the Harris County Sheriff's Office via Nextdoor.com on Jan 8:

Hello, this is Sheriff Adrian Garcia, and I am pleased to announce that starting today the Harris County Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing Nextdoor in our continued effort to foster neighbor-to-neighbor communication and just as important, law enforcement-to-neighbor communication.

The HCSO is the 21st century leading law enforcement agency and as such we will use Nextdoor as another tool to effectively share with you results about our proactive policing efforts, crime prevention and safety information, and community events we’d like for you to participate in.

You can expect to receive hyper-local crime and safety updates from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office via Nextdoor, but your Nextdoor website is still kept private to only those who live in the neighborhood and who have a verified address.

Please be aware that Nextdoor should NOT be used to request emergency services, police services, report criminal or suspicious activity, file a report, etc. If you require emergency services, please call 9-1-1. For non-emergency services, please call 713-221-6000. If you’d like to report suspicious persons and/or activity, you can do so anonymously through the HCSO’s free mobile phone app iWatch Harris County. Visit www.iwatchharriscounty.com for more information about how to download this FREE app today!

I’ve always said that you don’t necessarily need a gun and a badge to fight crime- we’re in this together!

We watch Harris County and so should YOU.

On behalf of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, we look forward to using Nextdoor to build stronger, safer neighborhoods throughout Harris County!

Adrian Garcia, Sheriff

Reminder from Sheriff's Office

Today is very sobering with the horrific tragedy in Boston.

"The violence in Boston is frightening to everyone.  It may be that there was no sign, no suspicion, no warning that this would happen.  But it reminds us to remind you of this:  Never hesitate to notify authorities when common sense tells you something is suspicious.  Call 911 if it's an emergency; if it's not, use tools such as our free smart phone app iWatch Harris County -- anonymously, if you'd like.  The sheriff's slogan shown above has never been more relevant."
(my note: the slogan they reference reads, "I Watch Harris County, and so should you."
